Send Staff Taxonomy

Overview

Some payers may require the staff's taxonomy to travel on the claim.  This can occur when you are sending professional type codes and the staff NPI's travels on the claim.

Important Notes:

  • UCare is requiring all professional claims submitted on/after March 1, 2017 contain the facility taxonomy code and the staff's taxonomy code, which correlates to the respective NPIs.
  • South Country Health Alliance is requiring all professional claims beginning with DOS 8/1/17 contain the facility taxonomy code and the staff's taxonomy code, which correlates to the respective NPIs.

Set-up the Payer

  1. Click on the Payers Module.
  2. Double click to open the payer.
  3. Click on the Payer Rules tab.
  4. In the field Send staff taxonomy: select Yes.

  5. Click on the Id's tab
  6. In the field Send taxonomy code: select Yes.
    • This field will only be present in some payers. If the field isn't listed for the payer in review, please proceed to step 7.

  7. Click Save

Set-up the Staff Record

  1. Click on the Staff Module.
  2. Double click to open the staff record.
  3. Click on the Billing tab.
  4. In Specialty: select the taxonomy code that matches this staff's NPI.

  5. Click Save.

Important Note:

If you are unsure of the taxonomy code that is registered with an NPI (facility or staff), please verify on the NPI Registry Search:  https://npiregistry.cms.hhs.gov/
